Lightview Plus is a wordpress plug-in which integrates Lightview into your wordpress blog and automatically changes all image links, so the images will open with lightview. Now, it is possible to show videos from YouTube and Vimeo with lightview.
Installation
- Copy the lightview-plus directory to the wordpress plug-in directory under /wp-content/
- Download Lightview javascript and decompress it
- Copy the directories „css“, „images“ and „js“ of the decompressed folder to /wp-content/plugins/lightview-plus/
- Activate the plug-in in the plug-in menu
- That’s it!
Update
To backup the lightview javascript on update, it is possible to activate a backup function in the options menu.
Embed Images
- Choose an image of your choice, as you have done it in wordpress many times
- Create a link with this image to a bigger version of this image
- All the rest is done from lightview-plus automatically
Examples for Images
Embed Videos
- Click the new button „Embed Video“
- In the pop-up choose the portal you want to use (at the moment only YouTube and Vimeo. More in one of the next version).
- Insert the video id
- Choose, if you want a link text under the video
- Enter the link text
- Click INSERT
Find out the Video ID
- YouTube: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=DYgZOY2g27w
- Vimeo: http://www.vimeo.com/1573042
- Blip.TV: It’s a little bit complicated. To show the this blip.tv video, you have to click on the share button. Under „embed episode“ find in the embed code this URL: http://a.blip.tv/api.swf#hPt7gu3pUgI . The highlighted part is the one you need to run the video with lightview plus

FAQ
Nothing is opened with lightview?
In you theme the <?php wp_head(); ?> is missing. Please, add it.
Images are still not opened with lightview!
Maybe an other plug-in uses jQuery or an older version of prototype oder scriptaculous. Deactivate the plug-ins or let me know if you found an alternative.
I added images to my text, but they are not clickable and they are not shown with lightview.
You have to create a link to the image. E. g. create a link from the image to the same image or a bigger one.
Is there a jQuery version of lightview?
I am not the author of lightview. I have done a wrapper for wordpress. Please, ask the author of lightview and let me know about the alternative.

FWIW it would not work until I removed http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wsi/faq/
Until then I was seeing errors like
TypeError: Result of expression ‚element.dispatchEvent‘ [undefined] is not a function.

Activate the debug informations, and tell me the output under the missing videos.
I ran phpinfo at my webhosting and they’re both enabled (screenshots links below). Don’t know what’s happening then ;(

I have no explanation for this situation, because normally this is the problem with fopen/simple_xml.

I’m trying to use the embed video functionality but I always get a box with an error „Video is not available“. I activated the debug table here is what I have (basically practically all empty):

Based on what I read on this forum, I double-checked that php5 was active on my web site through the .htaccess file.
The youtube video ID I’m using as a test is 86_x3j4c914

Thanks for a great plugin. One piece of functionality I do find myself wanting the ability to pass dimensions other than the defaults into the shortcode though.
So if no dimensions are passed, the default setting gets used, but if I am executing the shortcode where I need a specific size, I can override the default. Any plans to implement this?

I have a bit of a strange problem. We upgraded to the Twenty Ten theme and WP 3.0 in the middle of June, and Lightview Plus won’t work on our home page or in individual posts. It works on all other pages and on posts from before the upgrade — as you can see here: http://bit.ly/aUlNp2. This only applies to images, videos work perfectly.
Do you have any idea why this might be? Thanks,

Hey Marc, you insert you images with a link to the post url, but you have to link to the image url
The shortcode does not seem to work in widgets in WP3.0
I have added support for shortcodes in my functions.php file and other shortcodes such as gravity forms are working fine.
Can’t think of anything I might be doing wrong at this point in time.

The plugin as stopped working with WP3.0. Everything worked great before. When I access the plugin option I now get a message that reads…
Lightview Javascript and/or CSS isn’t copied to the plugin directory. See installation instructions for further details.
The js and css are in fact in the plugin folder. The folder contains the following

Again, everything worked prior to the WP3.p upgrade. Any ideas why the plugin option says that the plugin folder is missing the js or css fiiles?
